This project involves the purchase and protection of a 260-acre forested parcel in Otisfield, which includes 2.9 miles of river shoreline, 73.8 acres of high value wetlands, 11 vernal pools, 4,824 feet of stream habitat, a rare natural community and a rare plant species. After purchase, the one of the streams on the parcel will be enhanced by the removal of an old woods road ford which is interfering with stream flow. The ford will be replaced by an appropriately-sized arched concrete culvert. The project will also establish an enlarged resource protection buffer for the wetlands and streams. In addition, invasive Japanese barberry on site will be removed. The parcel is within the Jugtown Plains state focus area and is adjacent to 3,200 acres under conservation easement.
