Project Description:
This project conserved approximately 105 acres of land in the Belgrade Lakes region. About half of the property consists of high value wetlands, including freshwater forested and scrub-shrub wetlands, a small kettle hole pond and associated bog peatland, and stream habitat, with the remainder of the property consisting of forested upland buffer. The property is adjacent to the Karabin property, which was also protected with funding from MNRCP in 2019. Together, the two properties abut the existing Fogg Island Preserve, creating a 7 Lakes Alliance preserve that exceeds 600 acres and provides local-scale habitat connectivity and a large undeveloped block of wildlife habitat.
