Project Description:
The Pollard Flat project conserved approximately 282 acres of land adjacent to the existing Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife's Pollard Flat Wildlife Management Area. Acquisition of the property creates a block of permanently conserved lands greater than 525 acres in size. These permanently conserved lands will be protected and managed for their wetland and wildlife values as well as public access opportunities. The site includes more than 27 acres of freshwater forested, scrub-shrub, and emergent wetlands, with the balance consisting of upland buffer (forests and some old agricultural fields). The property includes more than 1,500 feet of frontage on the Aroostook River and contains habitat for the rare wood turtle (Glyptemys insculpta) and the pygmy snaketail dragonfly (Ophiogomphus howei).
