Project Description:
The Rouse Island project conserved an approximately 2-acre upland island, surrounded by approximately 12 acres of estuarine intertidal wetlands, including: fringing tidal marsh, rockweed beds, clam flats, and open intertidal and subtidal habitats. The site is located in Todd Bay within the estuary of the Kennebec River; mapped Tidal Waterfowl and Wading Bird Habitat surrounds the island in the estuarine intertidal areas. The island and intertidal areas are just east of a Kennebec Estuary Land Trust conservation easement on Long Island and are located within the Beginning with Habitat Kennebec Estuary Focus Area of Statewide Ecological Significance.
