Project Description

The Old Boston Farm project conserved approximately 156 acres of land containing large areas of freshwater forested, scrub-shrub, emergent and unconsolidated bottom wetland, as well as forested upland buffer surrounding the wetlands. The property contains two rare plant species, chestnut oak (Quercus montana) and spotted wintergreen (Chimaphila maculata), as well as approximately 7 vernal pools. Mapped Inland Waterfowl and Wading Bird Habitat is also located on the site and the property includes approximately 2,300 linear feet of frontage on the Ogunquit River. The property is bordered to the west by the existing 175-acre Hilton Preserve (also held by the York Land Trust) and is connected to a network of conservation lands in the Mt. Agamenticus region, which is a Beginning with Habitat Focus Area of Statewide Ecological Significance.
